Botox® Injections

Everyone is born with smooth, baby-soft skin. From very early on in life, the muscles under our skin contract to show facial lines of our emotion – happiness, sadness, etc. As soon as our emotions return to normal, those expression lines disappear.

Over time, our skin begins to lose its elasticity and those facial lines do not go away completely, thus making us look older than we feel.

BOTOX® is a prescription medicine proven to reduce and eliminate wrinkles in the upper third of your face. This includes: forehead, frown lines between the eyes and around the eyes. BOTOX® is a protein that weakens muscles that wrinkle our skin. When BOTOX® is injected directly into a specific muscle, it blocks the signals from the brain from reaching that muscle. As the muscle weakens, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles caused by muscle contractions soften and will often completely disappear. The effect can last from 4 to 5 months.

What to Expect

If you are a candidate for BOTOX®, the treatment can be performed right in our office. Your doctor will inject an extremely small amount of BOTOX® into designated facial muscles using a tiny needle. It will only take a few seconds. You will feel a slight stinging sensation for just a moment.

You will not see the effects of the initial injections for a week to 10 days. You will then continue to see improvements several days beyond. There is no downtime required. This procedure can be done on your lunch break and you may return to normal activities immediately.

BOTOX® has a very high level of safety and patient satisfaction. It will not cause numbness in the area of the injections and the muscles related to all other facial expressions are left unaffected.

Serious complications with BOTOX® injection are extremely rare, but like any medical procedure, it does have some risks. Going to a specialist experienced in BOTOX® injection can significantly minimize the risks. The vast majority of our patients are extremely happy with their appearance after BOTOX® treatment.
